Methods of Establishment

There are a variety of methods which can be utilised to establish habitats in both urban and rural environments.

These include sowing hand collected seed, cuttings from trees and shrubs, strewing or hydroseeding seed from semi-natural grasslands, the use of natural recolonisation, the translocation of sods, turves and plugs, the translocation of soil containing the seed bank of a habitat and the planting of trees and shrubs. Of these natural recolonisation is considered to be the most suitable ecological approach, however this is not always possible nor achievable in the short term.
